Introduction
October 25th has been officially named Pit Bull Awareness Day. In light of this, a small group of breed enthusiasts have come together to put on the second annual Atlanta Bully Educational Rally in Atlanta's Perkerson park on October 25, 2008 from 1:00-5:00 pm. This rally is an educational event for current pit bull owners and the general public. Despite the media hype surrounding the breed, there are good, responsible owners out there, and we're ready to set the record straight! Here's what you can expect if you attend:
- There will be a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) evaluator on hand to show people what the CGC test is like
- We'll have a chat about Breed Specific Legislation and backyard breeding
- Someone will speak about true APBT conformation
- Fulton County Animal Services will have a booth
- Best Friends will have a booth
- All or Nothing Pit Bull Rescue will have a booth
- K9 Rescue League will have a booth
We ask that you PLEASE leave your personal dog at home. There will be dogs at the event, but those dogs are up for adoption or are part of a demo.
Additionally, due to a generous grant from Best Friends Animal Society we are able to offer a limited number of free spay and neuter surgeries for pit bulls and pit mixes. Please contact us for more details!
The pit bull overpopulation problem is not something that will affect our future, it is here. Read more about the breeding and overpopulation problem pit bull owners face today.
So, please spread the word. We hope to reach as many owners as possible in the area and we can't do that without you. This important event is essential to solving the issues surrounding pit bulls. Lastly, we hope that this rally will pave the road for many others like it in the future.
The first 25 people to check in at the welcome table get a goodie bag of stuff for you and your dog!
Even if you aren't in Atlanta, responsible pit bull owners and advocates around the country can make their voices heard! On this day we will celebrate the second national Pit Bull Awareness Day. It's about time that we showed the public that not all pit bull owners are alike! We are not criminals, thugs or dog fighters. We are not people with low self-esteems that need a strong dog to bolster our fragile egos. Let's set the record straight once and for all! Let's show the public that people from all walks of life, from celebrities to soccer moms, own and responsibly manage pit bulls! Let's also show them that owning legitimate equipment such as spring poles and treadmills does not mean we are fighting our dogs, Let's show them that our dogs are members of our families and that we are not going to be bullied by breed specific legislation!
Regardless of where you are located, please choose an activity to participate in on October 25, 2008 to promote and celebrate responsible pit bull ownership.
